Keynote Talk:
Title: Multiport Network Communication Models for Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces

Abstract: The reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is an emerging technology that enhances the reliability of data transmission by appropriately shaping the propagation of electromagnetic waves in the wave domain, by turning radio propagation environments into smart radio propagation environments. Despite the potential performance gains and applications that this technology may provide in future wireless networks, a major limiting factor preventing information, communication, and signal processing theorists from realizing its full potential and unveiling its ultimate performance limits lies in understanding the electromagnetic and physical properties and limitations underpinning it. In this talk, we present an electromagnetically consistent approach for modeling and optimizing RIS-aided systems based on multiport network theory.

Speaker Bio: Marco Di Renzo (Fellow, IEEE) is a CNRS Research Director (Professor) and the Head of the Intelligent Physical Communications group in the Laboratory of Signals and Systems at CentraleSupelec - Paris-Saclay University (France). He holds the 2023 France-Nokia Chair of Excellence in ICT. He served as the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Communications Letters in 2019-2023 and he is now serving as the Director of Journals of the IEEE Communications Society.
