Travel Grants

ComSoc Student Travel Grants

IEEE Communications Society offers a limited number of travel grants (in US Dollars) to students who have registered and co-authored an accepted paper in IEEE WCNC 2024, on a competitive basis. Each award is subject to travel reimbursement.

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY

  1. The student applicant must be a student member of the IEEE Communications Society (not just a student member of IEEE).
  2. The student applicant must be a co-author of an accepted paper in IEEE WCNC 2024 and present it at the conference in person.
  3. The student applicant must be a full-time student registered toward a Bachelor’s, Masters’, or PhD degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field in a college or university when submitting their applications.
  4. During the expense reimbursement stage, the student applicant must show proof of having registered to attend the IEEE WCNC 2024 conference.

A student who is awarded a student grant must register, attend and present the paper at the conference. Payment will only be made to grant recipients who submit the expense report (with receipts) within 45 days after the conference. More details will be provided to the students who are selected to receive a ComSoc Student Travel Grant award.

We encourage participation from underrepresented groups and diverse institutions across all geographical regions. Women, minorities, beginning graduate students, and first-time conference attendees, are especially encouraged to apply.

Depending on the number of eligible candidates, each student travel grant at IEEE WCNC 2024 will have a minimum value of US$400 and a maximum value of US$1,400.

HOW TO APPLY

Click on the form link at the bottom of this section to start the application. Please have the following materials ready:

  • IEEE ComSoc Student Membership Number. Applicants must be current Student Members of the IEEE Communications Society (not just IEEE student members) at the time they apply for the grant.
  • Student’s up-to-date CV / Resume. This document should include citizenship and study level (undergraduate or graduate); the document may include ethnicity and gender (optional, used to broaden the participation of under-represented students).
  • Advisor Supporting Letter. This is a reference letter from the student’s advisor. We ask that the advisor confirms that the student has full-time status and is in good academic standing at the given institution.
  • Student Statement Letter. A half to one-page letter from the student should include the following information: (1) A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date (students should demonstrate a serious interest in networking, through their coursework and projects). (2) A statement on the purpose of attending the conference.
  • Conference Registration Confirmation Number. Applicants must register to attend the conference. Have your registration confirmation ready. To view the registration page, click here.
  • Estimate of the Travel Costs. This is just an estimate of what the grant money would be used towards, including conference registration, airfare, and hotel.

IEEE Communications Society Conference Travel Grants (CTG) are a newly established IEEE ComSoc grants program, which aims at providing partial financial support for participation in IEEE ComSoc conferences. The requirements for eligibility to the CTG are:

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicant must be a ComSoc member
  • He/she must be a conference participant
  • Unable to obtain sufficient substantial funding from own institution or other sources, and forced to cover most of or all the associated expenses with own funds

Priority will be given to:

  • Authors of the Specific Conference Papers
  • Presenters of accepted talks
  • Those residing in a country with a low Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita

A committee of volunteers will be appointed for each selected event to gather and evaluate requests for support, based on the following agreed rules:

The candidate will make a request for financial support by giving the reason for the trip and with a detailed estimation of traveling costs and why he/she cannot obtain such funding. The candidate will indicate his/her financial shortcomings.

CTG will be paid as reimbursement after the conference and only if the goal of the request is achieved. A recipient of CTG cannot accumulate any other ComSoc Grants for the specific conference.

Depending on the number of eligible candidates, each conference travel grant at IEEE WCNC 2024 will have a minimum value of US$500 and a maximum value of US$1,000.

HOW TO APPLY

The candidate will be able to submit his/her request through the applicaiton link below. Documents to be provided:

1.         short CV

2.         country of residence and country of birth
